Whittling: AUTUMN THEMES.
Mondays, October 6, 13, 20, 27; 7:00- 9:00 p.m. First we will get an overview of what palm carving is about through examples. Next we learn to sharpen knives and then the basic cuts by shaping a block into a Pumpkin the first night. We will start carving a duck the second, and continue on the third and fourth lesson. Time permitting we will paint the projects with your instructor George Effrem. Cost: With cutouts, 2 finger guards & Knife $62.00 or with out knife $49.50.

Have you ever wanted to make a wood sign for your home? This is the class to learn from basic to fancy. You will discover how to layout the characters properly spaced and sized. Find out how to make simple ornaments to accent and strengthen the overall design. Use a few basic tools or several to get the results you want. We will provide books for type style selection. Tuition cost: $65.00, plus tools and materials as needed.

(Ages 8 to 14 years old) Instructor Kevin Showell will stress the importance of safe techniques in working with wood. They do a simple relief project that they choose, learning to use hand-carving tools – chisels, gouges, and mallet to best advantage. The three 2-hour sessions are held once a week. Tuition cost: $60.00. Average tool cost: $60.00.

POWER CARVING PROJECT CLASS In Six sessions |
Winter 2009: Wednesdays, November 5 to December 10, 7:00-9:15 p.m. Carve the project of your choice with rotary power tools (i.e. Foredom, Ryobi, Dremel, etc.). You prepare your project design the first night and carve during the balance of the nights. Instructors Kevin Showell and George Effrem. Non-mandatory prerequisite: Intro to Wood Carving or equivalent. This class runs concurrently with regular project class. (NOTE: you must provide your own power tools.) Tuition cost: $119.00.

(Ages 8 to 14 years old) Explore hand woodworking: taking rough lumber and making it into furniture. Each child will build a three-leg stool to take home. The time honored hand tool techniques and safety are the emphasis of the class. Instructor Kevin Showell stresses safety. This class is physical and fun! Tuition cost: $80.00, required tool/ shop fee package $50.00. Optional tool costs up to $50.00.

Those who have taken our basic level young people’s carving class can progress to the next level. Design development will be explained and students will have an opportunity to do more advanced designs, like in-the-round subjects, and tool maintenance, and more. The instructor is Kevin Showell. Tuition cost: $60.00. Materials and additional tools cost as needed.

Tuesdays: February 3, 17, 24,2009; 7:00-9:00 p.m. Make a token of your affection for your favorite loved one. Fun and easy projects you are sure to enjoy. We will whittle a heart-shaped ring box the first night, an angel on the second, and paint them on the third. Taught by lead instructor George Effrem. WHITTLING BUNNIES & BEARS In three sessions

WHITTLING A LOON AND A WOLF In three sessions
Mondays: April 6, 13, 20, 2009; 7:00-9:30 p.m. Learn how to whittle with these popular projects. Taught by lead instructor George Effrem. You will learn how to layout, rough out, detail and paint your miniature loon and wolf. We whittle the first two nights and paint on the third night.
